Twitter's decision to censor political ads is about free expression. All censors throughout history have made similar claims, "we aren't stopping free expression of legitimate things, just blocking illegitimate things".
Do you like Trump? Because this is how you get Trump. It makes it harder for challengers to get their message out. It means the only ones heard are celebrities, incumbents, and extremists -- e.g. Trump.
Trump spent almost nothing to win the presidency. He didn't have to. His celebrity status and populist extremism got him all the coverage he wanted. His opponents couldn't get equal airtime no matter how much they spent.
Or, if you like Trump, then let's use AOC as an example. She's an otherwise minor representative who gets massive press coverage through her newly won celebrity status and populist extremism.

So today I learned of a feature in 'masscan', the '--wait' parameter that controls how long to wait for a response, as explained in this blogpost:

Now you might be asking yourself, that as the author of masscan, and the person who implemented that feature, shouldn't I already know about it? Yes, you'd think, but masscan has so many features I've forgotten half of them.
Anyway, when scanning for RDP, monero miners take up 100% CPU so it takes them longer to respond, so you need a longer wait.

No, we aren't doomed. That's not how hacking works.

Hackers don't cause one big "doom", but a small background noise of constant small problems -- problems that get fixed. It's that way with the Internet, it'll be that way for self-driving cars.
Sure, some jerk is will discover how to scan the Sprint network and cause all the Jeeps in the area to halt with a single command, potentially killing a lot of people. But that jerk will almost certainly be a researcher who gets the bug fixed rather than a murdering hacker.
The potential sounds bad, but frankly, doing this is about as hard to carry out as a sarin attack on a sports stadium. If you wanted to cause "doom", there's actually lots of other ways you can already do it. People don't now, and won't in the future.

This story (from news.ycombinator.com) is a great example of tracking down "impossible" bugs in code. I mention this because it's the sort of debugging effort they never tell you about in school.

As a programmer, you'll eventually encounter a bug that's "impossible", that you can't figure out no matter what you do. It's a wall that you hit, and it's very demotivating. Programming school doesn't warn you that this will happen, or teach you how to cope with it.
Big engineering organizations are have two groups of programmers, those that get stumped by bugs who must ask others to help them figure out what's wrong, and programmers skilled at figuring out bugs, helping other people out.

When Obama used it, all this Internet advertising stuff was cool. When Trump got good at it, very different story.
As I think should be clear to everyone, Twitter's decision to ban political advertising is a pure cost-benefit calculation: they're almost non-existent when it comes to total share of digital spend, and the compliance/PR headaches just aren't worth it.

Adriel Hampton’s ad dubbed over Lindsey Graham’s voice. Facebook should allow this guy (and anyone else) to run false political ads — major TV networks allow candidates to air false political ads. Facebook makes $$ of ads whether they are true or false.
2. TV networks and stations make hundreds of millions of dollars each election cycle by allowing candidates to air false or misleading political ads and giving air time to a candidate’s proxies who may then proceed to lie or spin the candidate’s record or positions.
3. In 2012, a station aired ads for a Democratic candidate who was challenging Keith Ellison, D-Minn., who is a Muslim. The challenger's ads featured images of beheading and dead fetuses. The station said it was required to air them per federal law.

In this video Bird downplays Labour antisemitism, talking about false accusations and ‘witch-huntery’.
2/13 ‘Just Jews’ previous video featured JVL member, Cllr Sue Lukes. She made similar claims about not witnessing antisemitism, but her story had inconsistencies. Similar claims by JVL leaders have also been disproved
3/13 ‘Just Jews’ claim they are “broadening the debate”. But this is clearly untrue - three out of their four videos feature JVL members, all downplaying antisemitism as you’d expect.

It showed a person allegedly calling for violence against Mitch McConnell

The person appears to be a BLM activist who has met with Elizabeth Warren

I said no and they suspended me *and* McConnell's re-election campaign

THREAD:
They told me, in a private message, that they were going to remove the video contained in the tweet, which was embedded from someone else's account

They also asked me to delete my tweet, which was separate

My tweet was newsworthy and factually accurate

I said no
They said it was for McConnell's safety that they wanted the video removed

They could have removed the video and not my tweet

Keep in mind, Twitter allowed (#)MassacreMitch to trend on the platform for days and there are multiple tweets on this platform that list where he lives

#History/#Art thread – From my recent trip to Madurai/Tirunelveli. On Jain sites (some with a rich history dating back to at least the 3rd cent. BCE), early Pandyan rock-cut cave temples (7th-8th cent. CE) & the amazing Vettuvan koil.

Before I start on the places, the history around all this is fascinating & splits opinion. Is it apt to call the script Tamili/Tamil Brahmi? Did it develop independently in the Tamil country/come with the Jain monks from the north? Were 8,000 Jains actually impaled in Madurai?>
