a few weeks ago, I wrote a post for @FTAlphaville on the role that Salomon Brothers, the all-mighty US securities firm, played a critical role in shaping the US repo markets, all to avoid the balance sheet of the US Federal Reserve
I am now reading the detective story version of it, and it's riveting - wife of Salomon's head was throwing bday parties for Kissinger while her husband was investigated for manipulating UST repo market.
in my impossible repo trinity paper, I identified Salomon UST repo scandal as landmark moment in US Treasury's repo policies.
Turns out Treasury asked Wachtell Lipton to investigate Salomon, even though Lipton was close friend of Salomon's head. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

this is not just Hungary - Orban a good example because of he seems to have put state apparatus in service of intimidating farmers, opponents and buying allies - but look at the concentration of CAP subsidies going into the top 20% recipients across Eastern Europe.

in a shocking move, Weidmann denies what his fellow central bankers have been saying for a year now, that climate risks are financial stability risks that need to be addressed within existing central bank mandates.
his 'bold' idea: central banks protect their own pensions from climate risks, but not the entire financial system.
when German central bankers were prepared to risk the euro so that they could remain slaves to a defunct idea - that central banking should never adjust to changing financial structures - we could reasonably think, oh well, there will be life after Euro.

Squeezing your suppliers, promoting your own products and bringing products in-house is business - it’s what you’re supposed to do. It becomes a problem, we think, if you have market dominance, and abuse it. So, what market share does Amazon have? Maybe 10% of US retail.
Yes, Amazon has over half of US e-commerce. Is that the right Market definition? If you say yes, you’re saying it doesn’t compete with Walmart, Best buy, or Barnes & Noble. You’re saying it doesn’t compete with bricks & mortar retail. That’s not an obvious conclusion

For many, the primary issue will be the economy. I can’t fault someone for prioritizing that. There are some communities that have been hit harder than others and addressing that concern may be the most important and immediate issue for them.
I completely understand why someone would focus on the economy because for most of my life, I have put the economy above any other issue.

In light of my story, the hospital is reducing that bill to $200.

We have about 2,000 bills now in our ER database. Most of them I won’t get to write about. But hundreds of them are stories of people struggling with unfair, high medical bills (3/X)

Back in 2016, @jBenson wrote an in-depth article "Inside the Troubled Development of Star Citizen" for @Kotaku_UK

It gave a very inside look into the development which - my blogs aside - had all the warning signs that the project was FUBAR.

Prior to that, only The Escapist had come close to doing any sort of research into the project's demise.

@TheEscapistMag got threatened with legal action by CIG. That got settled, and the article was later removed. But we have archives

That Benson article, had hints of how the Star Citizen "prototype" came to be, who helped create it etc.

It mentioned how Crytek devs like Sean Tracey, Paul Reindell and Hannes Appell became involved in the project.

It didn't go into Crytek's eventual extensive involvement
