COD mobile has one of the best onboarding ramps I’ve seen. Other games / consumer apps could probably learn a thing or two about retention by creating an environment where new users are guaranteed to have an amazing first 10 hours with your product
After a light tutorial, the first-time user is immediately dropped into a full ‘multiplayer’ game. Except unbeknownst to user, you and your friends are actually playing against a team of 5 AI bots with real-sounding names like ‘gunter007’ and ‘cheerio_cat’
For the next 10 hours, you feel like a badass - shredding bots John Wick style, blissfully unaware that the AI is calibrating your skill and slowly replacing bots with humans of equal skill. Eventually you lose against a full human team, but by then you’re in love with the game
