Idea for anyone who wants it: detect which colleges have tried hardest to game college rankings. I know from spam filtering that bad guys leave statistical tracks they don't realize they're leaving, and I'm sure colleges that gamed the system didn't think of this.
The results should, of course, be presented in the form of a ranked list.

If you set up a Kickstarter page for this project, and you seem like you know what you're doing, I'll donate to it.
Incidentally, this could be the kind of project that leads to a startup. Once you're good at detecting cheating, you'll be an expert on college rankings. Then you create your own non-bogus rankings, which could be the seed crystal of lots of things.

In any other domain, no one feels the need for conspiracy theories to explain outliers. At anything else except making money, you can do extremely well by being talented, hard-working, and lucky. But anyone who does extremely well at making money must have cheated.
Incidentally, the VC business is the refutation of this view. If cheating were the way to make lots of money, VCs would select founders by looking for good cheaters. And that is definitely not the filter they use.
It's the diametric opposite of the filter Y Combinator used. We actively screened out applicants who seemed dishonest. It not only didn't hurt us; it helped us.

A pattern I've seen in many different fields: even though many people have worked hard in the field, only a small fraction of the space of possibilities has been explored, because they've all worked on similar things.
Even the smartest, most imaginative people are surprisingly conservative when deciding what to work on. People who would never dream of being fashionable in any other way get sucked into working on fashionable problems.
Some of the best places of all to find new ideas are fields that people think are played out, because they've already been fully explored. Essays, Lisp, venture funding – you may notice a pattern here.

Now that I think about it, optimism and ambition are two of the main things YC cultivates in the startups it funds. You have to do it well. You can't just say "think big!" and expect that to work. But doing this effectively is a big part of the value of YC.
(Encouraging startups came naturally to me, because I love optimism and ambition. It doesn't take an effort to encourage startups and help them figure out how to get bigger. It would take an effort not to.)

Since writing the RFID essay on Oct 1st, I had a chance to read the Poker GFX user manual thanks to Ryan Feldman's tweet. The summary in my mind at the moment is to draw a vector diagram. X-axis is "Difficulty to Implement." The Y-axis is "Difficulty to Execute."
Now, here are the possible tech to rule IN.
A) Smartphone or PC (control room) to Smart phone or device (field); this is Easy to Implement and Easy to Execute. Thus, it is Hard to detect but Easy to prove. Proff will depend on which access point they used. If public, harder.
If it is 2nd corporate access point, it is easier as field device is an unauthorized IP and MAC address.

B) Remote control via commercial or open source tools. To hijack screen, mirror it, and relay it. This is hard to pull off since it requires multiple more hops.

Richard Tice reassured millions of ordinary working people they could vote Brexit without being financially harmed because there was a legal certainty that we would leave WITH A DEAL.

But Tice is the Chief Executive of Quidnet Capital and former multinational CEO. He'll be fine.
This is why I KNOW the @brexitparty_uk are the bad guys.

Because if you know people are already struggling in this country, and you know you reassured them they'd be OK if they voted Brexit by promising we'd do it with a deal, to push for No Deal requires total moral bankruptcy.
I'm not angry that Richard Tice represents the elite that many working class Brexit voters wanted to take back control from.

Privilege isn't the problem. Further disadvantaging the already disadvantaged from a position of privilege... THAT is the problem.

Historians are doing a fine job laying out how Owen is wrong on facts.

I’ll point out that Owens is prominent not because she actually believes anything, but because she’s skilled at knowing what white conservatives want to hear.

This is what they want to hear about Hitler.
Put another way, it would be a mistake to suppose Owens' formulations of nationalism/globalism/Hitler, which very much traffic modern neo-Nazis frame it, is original with Owens.

She tells white conservatives what they want to hear, professionally.

She's heard it said before.
She didn't mis-speak. She said exactly what conservatives think about nationalism and globalism.

The president called himself a nationalist.

Charlie Kirk was standing right there. He wasn't concerned.

It's mainstream conservatism. It's what they believe.

The competences of the EU are defined by treaty. They tend to be issues that extend beyond national borders.

It is TOTALLY NORMAL to be scared. Of moving to a new place, leaving home, of new people, of professors. It’s all normal. Knowing that it’s normal doesn’t make everything magically easier, but stop worrying that there’s something wrong with you for being scared. There’s not.
It is great that some people are best friends with their roommates! It’s awesome that some people find their new best friends right away! But, again-IT IS OKAY IF THAT’S NOT YOUR EXPERIENCE. It takes longer for some to find their place. And your “place” can change as you do.
