BREAKING: A federal judge in Washington (Trump appointee Carl Nichols) has dismissed a Trump lawsuit trying to block House from getting Trump tax returns from NY state officials. Case could be refiled in New York City or upstate NY. Ruling: bit.ly/33NaOYd
The ruling is that a DC based federal court lacks jurisdiction over the New York officials because they don't have sufficient ties to DC. And because it's too speculative right now that NY will send Trump's tax returns to DC
Judge also notes twice that Trump just moved from NY to Florida (hat tip for @AndrewRestuccia)

Just finished reading through transcripts of Greg Craig jury selection from yesterday. We're starting the process over tomorrow because of concerns about much of it being done behind closed doors politico.com/story/2019/08/… But what happened behind those doors is worth a THREAD (1/x)

UPDATE: Flynn just left DC court after nearly 2-hour closed door meeting with his new attorneys. When I asked Flynn about reason for the shift, his new lead lawyer Sydney Powell replied: 'No comments.' Earlier: politico.com/story/2019/06/…

A few thoughts on Maria Butina 18-month sentence. It was in line with rec of prosecutors who alleged she was part of a 'spot and assess' operation to recruit Russian spies in the US political system politi.co/2IZevCi
However, there was no suggestion Butina knew she was part of such an effort. (If she was, she should've asked for money or a job, no?)
Also it seems to me like there'd be significant overlap between efforts to find Americans susceptible to Russian messaging and Americans susceptible to Russian recruitment.

3/ He resigned over Operation Eagle Claw, which was a mission to free the Iran Hostages in 1980. The events of that aborted mission ultimately leased to needed change within the military in helicopter training, etc, but I digress.

#Breaking: A federal Judge overturned the conviction of Flynn’s business partner Bijan Rafiekian. Judge said the governments evidence was insufficient, but that the government could appeal the decision.

Per @NBCNews, this pertains to a biotech company for which Rep. Chris Collins was a board member.

Worth noting that Rep. Chris Collins forcefully defended Trump's refusal to release his tax returns. Collins said elected officials shouldn't release their taxes, period.

... it's almost like there's a reason we have standards for this sort of thing.

It’s the first ruling in federal court to define “emolument,” which goes undefined in the Constitution’s two emoluments clauses.
Federal District Judge Peter Messitte rejected the “cramped interpretation” of the term offered by Justice Department lawyers, who argued the case should be dismissed.

BREAKING: A federal judge in Washington ruled Monday that the Trump administration is violating its own policy by uniformly denying parole to asylum-seekers who have passed their “credible fear” interviews — a key step in the asylum process.
In the decision, the court sided with the immigrants who brought the class action and ordered the Trump administration to restore the practice of granting fair, individual parole hearings to asylum-seekers who have passed that initial threshold.
Prevailing at the parole hearing means that an asylum-seeker is released from detention and allowed to remain in the country pending a decision on their asylum petition, a process that can take several years.
