My new and improved list for how to get involved in @AMIAinformatics, both at #AMIA2019 and after:

@AMIAinformatics 1. Ask questions after talks and identify yourself (name, affiliation) when you do
2. Attend the "State of the Association" Town Hall
3. Tweet (don't forget to tag #AMIA2019)

@AMIAinformatics 4. Join "Working Groups" and Discussion Forums related to your areas of interest- connect.amia.org/home
4a. Participate! Show up! Send messages, reply to messages, contribute to discussions!
5. Run for leadership positions in WG's

@AMIAinformatics 6. Introduce yourself to someone you don’t know at a coffee break (you can take cues from ribbons)
7. Resist the temptation to hide in your hotel room during breaks (as I used to want to do, esp as a student)- they are some of the most important parts of the conference! Network!

@AMIAinformatics 8. Seek out people with "ACMI Fellow" ribbons- they're relatively senior and accomplished (same for FAMIA or Fellow of AMIA ribbons, though I have not yet confirmed those exist?)

@AMIAinformatics 9. Seek out people with "Board Member" ribbons (or look for amia.org/about-amia/lea…)- we want to know how to make AMIA work for you!
10. Women and allies join the Women in Informatics Discussion Forum- connect.amia.org/WIADF

@AMIAinformatics 11. Women attend WINE! (already happened Sat evening, but attend next time!)
12. Ask your advisor/friend/colleague to make introductions
13. Peruse the posters, talk to the authors (they want to talk to you! That's why they're standing there!)

@AMIAinformatics 14. Read (at least skim!) eNews- the email sent to members on Thursdays- it has e.g. Calls for volunteers to participate in scientific program committee, be a session chair, etc.
