1. One thing that annoys me to no end - both dems and GOPrs believe in science *until science conflicts with their beliefs or what they want to believe.*

Before people start slamming @JoeBiden on his *actual* statements about marijuana, know this: His *actual* words are right..
@JoeBiden 2...start from my position: It is my hope that marijuana is legalized, at the very least for research purposes. Cannabis (not THC) has enormous medical applications, and it is stupid we aren't able to conduct mass research.

@JoeBiden 3...research is not conclusive. Research from different scientific journals - Journal of Substance Use and Misuse, Journal of Forensic Science - have data suggesting it is. Now, is it the drug or environmental factors? That is what needs to be resolved.....
@JoeBiden 4...data from the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health showed marijuana use preceded alcoholism pretty strongly in several cohorts. Again, environmental factors can be the explanation, but that research *is not finished.*

@JoeBiden 5...on gateway drug issues" is not some old fogey not being up with the time. It is the state of the science. Now, there is something else here: Does the gateway effect, if it is real, justify not legalizing? After all, readily available alcohol is a huge factor in alcoholism...
@JoeBiden 6...but I would MUCH rather have political leaders who say "I want to know the science before I make a decision" versus "I want, therefore that is my decision."

And again - I am someone who hopes for legalization. I just dont ignore science because it counters what I want....

@JoeBiden 8...again, you might have lots of arguments one way or another, but just like with climate change or evolution or anything else science based, I don't care about your beliefs. I care about what the science shows. And for right now, the science is unclear. (But again....
@JoeBiden 9...even if it proves to be a gateway drug, policy rationales could lead to that concern being overruled. But Id rather have policy with scientific elements be made with knowledge of the science first.)

@GovMikeHuckabee 2...now, there are no flashing lights or highlighting on the words translated to mean homosexuality. It is just one among that entire bunch. And @GovMikeHuckabee God-King fits liar, prideful, greed, adultery - all in the same verses. But they praise him. They don't care AT ALL..

Spoke to @GrandPrairiePD about woman beaten by husband, had photos of bruises, but waited a few weeks before calling (when he flew out of control.) They said, "should have called us right away."

Cop now says to me, "Doesn't have bruises now. Injuries could be caused by anything"

Even though, if he gets back inside house, he is taking everything - including her clothes - to wreck her financially, they say, "Well, she can't be too scared. She cares more about her stuff."....
@GrandPrairiePD ...these people literally believe that a woman who wants not to lose everything because her mentally ill husband is irrational has to choose between her and her child having nothing, or her being killed.

So, I ran across a retweet of the below tweet and it immediately raised flags. Puffing up a witness has a reason, so decided to go look for the documentation behind it, since it had a direct quote. Didn't take long - few minutes and NPR coughed it up (will link at the end)./1
About puffing someone up - the reason is to try to give the person credibility, their views more weight than they should be given, and to set them above someone they are in disagreement with. In this case, also to elicit support due to his medal./2
In the case of the tweet, it is immediately followed by the statement "speaking out against the command-in-chief." (you're suppose to gasp here I think)

Then "the reason" is given - people kept telling him he needed to speak up (be sure to ignore other possible reasons)./3

One of the things my first-year experience students are struggling with when it comes to writing is that they've been taught you must have a thesis before you start writing, essentially, you must know what you want to say before you start saying it.
The things I'm asking them to write are far too complicated to know what you're going to say before starting the drafting process. They need an idea, a notion, but that notion is the initial element upon which the thesis will ultimately be built, idea by idea.
Getting them to trust that a notion is enough has proven difficult, I believe, because they've had limited to no practice with writing as "thinking." Writing for school has not allowed them enough latitude to develop their ideas through the act of writing.

360 BC #aristotle posited #aether as a substance needed to explain physical phenomenon. In Aristotles mind Aether helped explain momentum. Newton hadn't been born yet & thus no laws of motion. Instead, he figured some substance acted upon objects in motion, keeping them in motion
This first theory of Aether (there would be more) was of course later debunked by Newtons Laws of Universal Motion.
