I mean - I didn't get to hear the talk but until we define EM on a career level... and then what that even looks like from state to state and city to city - I don't know how that would be effective. Taking away national structure only blurs the lines more I feel. 🤷‍♀️
I think he is getting at the solution of getting local and state agencies to take care of themselves. This I 100% agree with. But - we need to teach local jurisdictions (especially the smaller ones) how to even do that! We just aren't there yet to me.
I need to look for more threads on this. I'm interested to know the whole talk. I typically really enjoy Long's thoughts on EM.

A good way to recruit vols or just members of the community into CERT training is to tell them about how the skills they learn are "life long." This means that despite choosing not to be a member of a team, they will have the skills for life in the event that it is needed.
After a team is established, figuring out a structure that works good for your team and jurisdiction is very important! Some do that based on service/skill while others may use only ICS branch. A mix of both is not out of the question.

Support for impeaching Trump at 45%, per daily tracking data from @Civiqs -- which is (again) higher than at any point for Nixon until right before he resigned.
This high level of support for impeachment is despite unusually high levels of people answering "Unsure".

Democrats: 10% claim not to know
Independents: 8% claim not to know
(It's also important to remember very few people have actually read the entire Mueller report.)

("Ex parte" is Latin for "from." An ex parte communication is one coming from only one party, not providing any notice to the other party. Basically the opposite of a letter copied to opposing counsel, filed publicly, and served via the electronic filing system.)
It is quite literally impossible to overstate how fantastically dumb Ty Beard's "ex parte" characterization is

The motion is weak and the basis is LOLable, but my suspicion is that the judge will grant it (though likely for less than 3 weeks)

Defendants will argue the burden is on Plaintiff to show good cause (the motion doesn't do that), plus ongoing harassment

Positive for the Defendants. He gives their attorneys lots of usable material

A good rule of thumb as y'all see an assortment of "bUt ThEy LiEd UnDeR oAtH" tweets from conVics is that they're typically projecting – accusing others of the things they themselves or R.Broly have done

The brief description of the religious freedom policies of His Imperial Highness Jospeh II points out the interesting issue that some Jews did not like the change from conditional tolerance to a status quo in which they were obliged to integrate into the body politic.
This is not a new ambiguity to me, but I look forward to what the authors have to say on the problem of assimilation as a social model.

And what's "good" for the city and state tax rolls is not what's good for our communities.

Amazon was demanding that we loan them money upfront to bring in workers from outside the city to displace and gentrify, with the hope the city and state would reap taxes later. That's it.
Wait, it gets worse. The subsidy was going to be $120k per job. Do you know how long that tax revenue would take to recoup?

A worker making $80k per year pays $3k in city tax and $4.8k in state taxes every year. Let's generously assume they spend $20k in taxable purchases.
That's $1.8k in sales taxes. $9.6k per year in total in tax revenue individually, plus the unemployment insurance payroll taxes ($400) that take it to an even $10k to the State and City. Thanks gusto.com/framework/payr…
