Don't tell people to start drinking.

This is next-level assholery.
1. Did this guy think that drinking alcohol had simply never occurred to me, and that his suggestion would be some sort of revelation?

2. What if I were an addict in recovery!?

3. Nobody "deserves" to drink. That's now how alcohol works. You choose it or you don't.
And even if it were something I "deserved", I certainly don't need some random guy validating my worth.

(The same guy corrected me when I called alcohol a "class 1 carcinogen" rather than "group 1".)

Don't be that guy. What a prick.

I've been thinking a lot about the prescriptive ways in which we talk to moms about motherhood.

We all know that it's OK to have a messy house - but we keep repeating this reminder to one another (I just did it yesterday!) as if it's a big revelation.

We need the reminders...
because society still ties the keeping of a home to a woman's value. Society still looks at my house - at the piled-up folded clothes and stacks of mail and smattering of toys everywhere - and wonders why I'm so lazy.
Because society is part of me and I am society, I wonder why I'm so lazy. I wonder why I don't just write the bills and recycle the envelopes. I judge me, even though I know that this values system is out of wack.

I never judge my husband for the house's mess.

This project is more important than it may seem on the surface.

For women to succeed "outside the home" (ie as anything other than wives & moms) we have to let "inside the home" go, to some degree.

We aren't going to neglect our kids, so housework falls off...
The shame and blame of a messy or dirty home of this actually keeps some women from pursuing careers or even meaningful volunteer/activist work.

When someone walks into my home and sees kid crap everywhere, they don't wonder why my husband is slacking. It ALWAYS turns on me.
That was actually a lesson my stepdad had to tell my husband, who doesn't care if our house is messy. He said, "It doesn't bother you because nobody would ever judge you for it!"

The judgment goes directly onto me. Like I shouldn't be working so much or shouldn't be so lazy.

It's galling to see how shocked (shocked, I tell you!) Americans are by Garrett going after helmet-twister Rudolph...

I mean, we raise these boys to CRUSH their opponent from PeeWee to Pop Warner....
... we teach them to dehumanize their opponents, to treat them like bugs to be smashed into the ground.

We also let them crash helmets starting at age 7, slowly but surely damaging their brains, year-by-year.

We treat them like commodities, ask them to risk their lives...
We pay BIG money to their bosses, who lied to them for YEARS about the risks of brain damage, CTE and dementia.

The NFL is a system designed to reward brutality.

And then we're mad when they're brutal to one another? We act like fans had NOTHING to do with that fight...

Shooting the shit with a friend, she’s proud to be doing well with her plants - unusual for her.

The key was a #video explaining the benefits of pruning.

She needs REASONS. She got them.

Apparently, pruning in a particular manner stimulates growth hormones.

1/ Common knowledge that big-CPG is being displaced by small brands in almost every category. I’ve said some of the things I would do differently if I were in charge. Let’s go deeper. Now I’ll lay out why they can’t just innovate themselves.
2/ Reason 1: Scale has resulted in reverse network effects for brands today. For most of the 1900s, as a CPG brand got larger, it got stronger (typically network effects). Today the network effects begin to reverse after ubiquity - the bigger it is, the less trust there is.
3/ Reason 2: Massive scale is counterproductive to today’s trends. To achieve scale, big companies created products that the average consumer will buy, that the average retailer will carry, and that their average manufacturing facility can mass produce.
