What a saga. You'd think "somebody" didn't want us to have a sign on Route 1 (Dedham/Boston).
It certainly took long enough (after years of fundraising!).
Street signage became all the more necessary for our Dedham location when the strip mall right ahead of us installed a solid fence all the way to the street, hiding our bookstore from view. Even we couldn't find it!
You can't imagine the permits involved (to replace a sign that had been in that same place).
Finally, two (three?) weeks ago, the workers came to install the posts. And out of nowhere an official came to them, asking to see a permit that nobody had known about.
That taken care of, they came last week to install the sign and found...the sign did not fit the posts.
"This never happens," the man from the signage company said.
By this point, it was clear.
We have an Enemy.
You wouldn't know it by looking at it, but our humble Dedham bookstore must be wreaking havoc down in the underworld. They seem to be working overtime to keep people on Route 1 from stopping by.
Another week went by so the sign could be remade.
It finally went up yesterday.
And you know what?
It has to be remade. Again.
Look at the text. Something very important is missing.
The missing line tells you everything.
Oh, you can't see what's missing.
I have to tell you.
It's supposed to say, "VISIT OUR CHAPEL."
The new sign should be coming soon.
In the meantime, VISIT OUR CHAPEL!
