On the BBC, John Motson could see how full to overflowing the central pens were by 2.45pm. Duckenfield had CCTV footage of those pens - then lied about what he did afterwards.

And his lies about his negligence were precisely what triggered a whole catalogue of lies and slander which the people of Liverpool had to suffer for 20 years. Lies from the authorities who'd failed to protect their loved ones, then blamed them for their own deaths.
This has never been about a vendetta, or revenge, or anything like that. It's about what kind of country allows this sort of thing. Allows an entire city to be traduced and holds nobody accountable; allows a two-decade-long cover-up which people in high places KNEW ABOUT.
The Hillsborough families are all heroes. Each and every one. Their courage, their perseverance, their turning over every last stone so their loved ones could have truth and justice has been unparalleled.
