PSA: If you’re doing shopping for artsy kids this holiday season, avoid these art sets. Every artist I know got these as a kid and LOATHED them, because the quality sucks. Instead, find out what medium the kid likes and get nice versions of that specific thing.
If they like doing ink drawings, Microns are really good and pretty inexpensive. If they already have those, Copic Multiliners are a HUGE upgade (and they're refillable!).
As a kid all I wanted was a set of Prismacolor colored pencils and never got them. When someone finally got them for me, it was such a game changer.
If they like to paint, a little set of good watercolors is a great idea, and also the parents will love it because they get to frame the art. (Winsor Newton is sorta pricey, but there are plenty of cheaper options out there.)
Same goes for sketchbooks. I can't count how many SHITTY sketchbooks I got from clueless adults. Get a decent sketchbook with a sturdy cover.
