One of the main ways to process trauma is to allow yourself to feel things as they come up, but so many of us don’t even have the freedom to do that when we have to go to work each day or other responsibilities to worry about. It becomes a terrible cycle of repression.
Capitalism is inhumane. The theories underlying it (think Descartes/Hobbes) present the lie that we exist disconnected from our bodies so we can work even more for less. All this has done is normalize alienation and ongoing damage to our mental health.
The foundation of bourgeois psychology is rooted in the idea of the “individual” as something totally separate from our bodies and each other. This is an attempt to ignore the direct ways our environment molds us and it’s why so many are blamed for the conditions forced on them.
