I was just remembering Junior High romance and I had to sit and have a good laugh. Here are some funny examples. Many of these people are friends now, so hopefully they just find it funny like I do...
7th grade. My best friend has a sleepover at her house and invites a guy I have a crush on. She gives us her room. We lay in the bed together about 4 feet apart. Boy asks if I want to be his girlfriend. I enthusiastically say yes. We fall asleep. In the morning we break up.
7th grade - different boy and I decide to kiss on a band trip in the back of the school bus. He has braces. It’s awkward and doesn’t work. The bus breaks down and we are stranded for hours sitting silently next to each other. Mass hysteria as other kids start seeing ghosts...
8th grade - new school. First day, very tall boy walks up to me and asks me to be his girlfriend. He’s cute so I say yes. Many months go by and we don’t talk. Even have classes together. One day I pass him in hallway and he says “we are breaking up, this isn’t going to work”
8th grade - different boy and I share a locker together and start doing everything together. He asks me to prom, but I had to wear British Knights for some reason. He picks me up and has flowers he stole from cemetery. We get to dance and he vanishes. Never returns.
I ask first boy from 8th grade to dance at prom. He says “no way”. I walk home alone. I’m very comfortable shoes at least and with some very dirty flowers.
8th grade - I go out of town and return to flowers in my locker but they are dead. Still don’t know who gave them to me.
8th grade - nice guy and I hang out, he asks me out and we hold hands. We hold hands at breaks for several weeks, but I don’t like how his hands feel, so I break up with him.
8th grade - I have a newspaper route and I meet some local neighborhood guys. We hang out and read comic books together. I ask one of them out - figure I should try making the first move. Boy says he likes boys.
8th grade - I fall hard for a local skater guy. Decide to skate to try to impress him. I lie about being 15. He comes over to my place and we drink Dr. Pepper and listen to the Cure. Mom comes home suddenly and I shove him out the window. That’s the end of that.
So now I want to hear other people’s awkward stories from Junior High.
