All of these "AsAJews" on Twitter remind me of a story that happened a long time ago, perhaps around 1982.
I was working during college at a pharmaceutical company and the administrative assistant at the time was from Lebanon. We didn't talk politics too much.
1/
One day she showed me an article to see my reaction. If I recall correctly, it was from a British newspaper or magazine.
In this article, the author said that he was always against Israel. He never liked Israel and he was vocal about it.
2/
Then, one day, he found out that he was Jewish!
And guess what? He still hated Israel!
3/
That was the entire article. It didn't say that he decided to research Israel and see if he was wrong about it all this time, all it said was "I hated Israel before I found out I was Jewish and I hate it just as much now!"
4/
I looked at her and just said, "This is stupid," without describing why.
The important part isn't that some idiot didn't drop his entire emotional investment he put into hating Israel after finding out that he happened to be born Jewish. 5/
The important part is that this British media source felt that this stupidity was actually worth publishing.
But it makes sense. Because his previous hate for Israel was as a gentile. Now he could say "AsAJew!" 6/
Every single AsAJew story on social media is the same. Somehow idiotic opinions on Israel are given more importance because they are coming from people who happen to be Jewish by some metric.
