I never quite said out loud before, but: I have had a *major* change in my understanding of how to enable a massive movement of nonhierarchical orgs working in service of life-giving values. /thread
At first I was totally focused on power dynamics.

I joined Occupy in 2011, cofounded a worker owned coop in 2012, built open source software that makes it easy for people to participate in decisions (@loomio).

This is all about power.
2016, no global revolution yet, so I'm wondering what's going on? What's missing? Why is society retreating from democracy? Why do orgs still mostly suck?

Been travelling since then meeting teams who are trying to work without traditional hierarchies.
My conclusion: power is crucial, but so is adult development. They're equal priorities for me now.

What makes an effective team is emotional intelligence, perspective taking, psychological safety, relational sensitivity, mutual care, belonging, peaceful honest communication...
Thanks to @LombardoNati for explaining this to me since 2011 and to @HFreinacht for catalysing my phase shift in 2018.
Open source, worker coops, tech, participatory decisions etc are all good for addressing power imbalance. But where does development come from?

Culture: peer support, witnessing, accompaniment, eldership, vulnerable authentic relationships, courage, curiosity, service, humility
How to kickstart developmental culture?

This is the question for 2020. Exploring with @TheHum_Team and @alteregonetwork

Hypothesis:
1. peak experience at transformative gatherings +
2. integration and support thru peer coaching circles +
3. org dev thru rapid prototyping
The structural focus is great so long as it invites us to be co-responsible adults supporting each other's development.

But if we're not careful the power fixation can reinforce victim/saviour either/or parent/child us/them binary thinking which is anti developmental.
