Email from the New York Attorney General’s office: “Trump paid the $2 million.”
Per the AG’s press release, the $2 million was paid by Trump to eight charities—$250k each. The charities also received a distribution from the defunct Trump Foundation’s bank account. “Each charity ended up receiving a total of $476,140.41.” 
For those asking about the mechanics, a state official familiar with the matter tells me that Trump’s payments were made by wire transfer directly to the charities. The NY AG’s Office received a confirmation.
