Here's a phenomenon I don't think people are taking seriously enough. There's a sizable cadre of super-Trumpy GOP candidates running for office who are fame-seeking sociopaths like this guy. Many are outright white nationalists.
Here's another one who's running to represent me in Oregon. wweek.com/news/state/201…
Almost all of them have little chance of winning in 2020 because they are running for the GOP primary in fairly blue districts. But they are where most of the energy is at in the grassroots GOP...I mean, who would've thought that Trump would be President in 2014?
Remember when Breitbart and Infowars were just nutty fringe websites no one took seriously? Their version of reality is now the mainstream of GOP opinion.
Interestingly, all three of the MAGA candidates listed in this thread have ties to Roger Stone. When Stone gave the keynote address at the Oregon GOP convention in 2018 he posed in the convention hall bar with a group of Proud Boys, and Alex Jones tweeted out the picture.
I think it's far more likely than not that the GOP will keep moving ever further right until Steve King will be a centrist in their caucus. I've seen no evidence of a pushback within the party against these local MAGA fanatics. They are the future of the party.
Virtually every "reality-based" Republican or conservative has either left the party (Amash and the Never Trumpers) or they are leaving office (Hurd, Flake, etc.). washingtonpost.com/powerpost/rep-…
The only ones left are MAGA true believers like Jim Jordan, Louie Gohmert, and Matt Gaetz...or spineless people with ambition who've made their deal with the devil (Cruz, Rubio, Sasse, Lee etc.).
In 10 years, the GOP establishment, the wise old men of the party, will be comprised of MIck Mulvaney, Jim Jordan, Mark Meadows, Louie Gohmert, Matt Gaetz, Steve King, and Doug Collins.
If you think Mitt Romney is the future of the GOP, then I'd love to have some of what you're smoking...because that is a bipartisan future I'd be content to live in, but it's a bipartisan future I have a really hard time believing is a serious possibility.
