The PG&E power shutdown feels like the next step in the Bay Area’s civilizational regression.

Appears due to liability concerns after last year’s Paradise fire.

Rather than improving tech, accepting it was an accident, or some other option…shut down power for 800k people.
I guess the guaranteed economic damage from shutting down power for 800k people was suffered by others, and less than the possible economic damage from lawsuits.

As @louisgray observed, similar to TSA security theater at airports.
This fiasco makes the cost of risk aversion very obvious.

Bay Area governments have banned scooters & straws, made ride sharing worse at SFO, and blocked new housing. All in the name of the public good.

Now even the 100+ year old innovation called electrical power is too risky.

In another century, I hasten to add.

I represented the Irish party at the European Federation of GPs and edited what we laughingly called its theoretical journal.
I also spent a year in the French party and, more interestingly, on the far left of the German party. I thought the Irish party had the potential to become a party of and for #SocialMovements. I found I was wrong, and left.
