"Blue collar Conservatism" off to an interesting start...
Conservative manifesto page 5: “we will legislate to ensure high standards of workers’ rights, environmental protection and consumer rights.”
Of course it is possible govt will legislate on this separately to the WAB but given govt has previously committed to these changes, interesting signal to send, given so much is being made of this shift to a more earthy Conservatism.
Still a rude awakening for MPs. The PM has the numbers. He can do what he likes now. Where once they had influence now they have none.

Well as someone once said, that is that, the end. Last live (worked out I’ve done over 2000). Had an unforgettable three years. Will miss @SkyNews colleagues and the best politics team in Westminster. Have learnt so much from all of them. Now for a very long sleep until January.
.@SkyNews is a special place to work. A lot of companies talk about giving opportunities. They do it. They took a 26 year old who had done one live in his life with an obsession about politics and put me on TV, even election night. Had my dream job. How many people can say that?
And thank you to all of you for watching, for giving me ideas, sometimes listening to what I had to say and sometimes critiquing it. Hope you stick with me in 2020 when I become Policy Editor @BBCNewsnight. Have a great Christmas.

To all those saying why on Earth is Labour still voting against the WAB, it’s v simple.

Firstly for the same reason they always have: they thought Brexit would damage their constituents incomes and job prospects. Fundamentally Lab MPs couldn’t reconcile that and still can’t.
Secondly, precisely for that reason they’ll vote against it now. Lab MPs think Brexit will be a slow burn economic car crash, as they always have. They think supply chains will relocate and investment in manufacturing will dry up. They want to be able to say, we told you so.
It’s worth saying they’re hardly alone in that thinking: the govt’s own forecasts say that this form of hard Brexit will be economically damaging.

Only in Britain could you be denied your place in the legislature for a fixed term by the electorate only to be put back in it only days later by the government for life.
Three cheers (two? One?) for democracy.
This appointment is darkly ironic given Zac Goldsmith was the man who campaigned endlessly for recall for MPs. He’s now just been given a place in the legislature for the rest of his life, where he will be accountable to no-one and where he cannot be removed.

EU member states don't want to be bounced into Boris Johnson's 11-month trade deal timetable.

That's why the latest version of EU leaders' summit conclusions have scaled back promises of speediness.

Many member states thought sent the wrong signal, that EU was signed up to Boris Johnson’s 11-month timetable.

2.
The EU is still promising to be speedy, but no one is gung-ho about trade deal in 11 mths. Far from it: many dismayed that Johnson has boxed himself in by ruling out extension of transition period. Remember original transition was deemed too short when it was 21 months.

Labour’s manifesto for "the final say on Brexit" - is it realistic? A few thoughts.
Labour’s main pitch is to negotiate “a sensible deal” in three months and put it to a public vote within six. That means a Brexit extension until July 31 2020.

Many in the EU will throw up their hands in despair at yet more Brexit discussion and delay, but I still cannot see any single member state taking the historic decision to kick the UK out by vetoing extension.

Quick fact check on Boris Johnson's latest Twitter video.

Claim: UK will take back control of "our money, our borders, our laws as soon as we come out of the EU".

Reality: UK remains in 11-month transition, paying into EU budget, following EU law, inc free movement ppl.
Claim: UK will negotiate "big free trade deal” with EU with no political alignment.

Reality: UK gov has no plans for close alignment, but will have to adhere to core EU standards on workers’ rights, environment, consumer protection to ensure zero tariffs and zero quotas.
Claim: UK did “new withdrawal agreement in less than three months" and can get "fantastic" trade deal by end 2020.

Reality: EU says timetable difficult but doable, but pending ratification in national and regional European parliaments.

Bit late getting to future relationship document, will comment as I read. Bear in mind this is political, not legal, and they can change it later.
"High standards" of workers rights etc. Not very specific. Withdrawal Agreement only secures non-regression - ie sticking to existing baseline - not a dynamic relationship which would take on future improvements.
This section appears to rule out EEA because of free movement point. But then, it is itself total nonsense, cos withdrawal agreement doesn't really protect UK's internal market or, in any realistic practical sense, allow for independent trade policy.
