To all those saying why on Earth is Labour still voting against the WAB, it’s v simple.

Firstly for the same reason they always have: they thought Brexit would damage their constituents incomes and job prospects. Fundamentally Lab MPs couldn’t reconcile that and still can’t.
Secondly, precisely for that reason they’ll vote against it now. Lab MPs think Brexit will be a slow burn economic car crash, as they always have. They think supply chains will relocate and investment in manufacturing will dry up. They want to be able to say, we told you so.
It’s worth saying they’re hardly alone in that thinking: the govt’s own forecasts say that this form of hard Brexit will be economically damaging.
Thirdly, it’s 4.5 years til the next election. Time is on Labour’s side. Unlikely anyone will change their vote on the basis of how Labour whips for the WAB now. Instead today is a downpayment on what could be a potent line of attack in the future.
