/ The sad story started when my old phone began to die so I got a Pixel 4 because of the camera.
/ It wouldn’t connect to Android Auto in my car, which was thus deprived of several essential functions. Not a flicker of recognition from either side.
/ It wouldn’t connect to my work email (mysteriously, with baffling symptoms never previously seen by any Amazon IT person).
/ And my home land-line died. Every pizza, sushi, and roti take-out for miles knows that number.
/ And my work desk phone died. Needed for hands-free hold with service providers.
/ And nobody could fix any of this. Especially the phone company minion sent to the wrong address with the wrong tools. I considered the advantages of a mid-Medieval lifestyle.
/ Then on the weekend the phone company sent someone smart who hooked up fiber and the phone worked!
/ But on Monday morning there was no heat. Bad in Canada in December. Medieval lifestyle, roaring fire, could do worse, were doing worse.
/ Anyhow it was just that the telco tech had forgotten to turn the furnace circuit back on. Warmth restored.
/ And working with a smart Amazon IT person, we eventually realized the Android onboarding auth form was trimming its input, fatal if you have a space at the end of your password. New password, connected phone.
/ Another feature of medieval life is an assortment of cruel instruments of torture and slow death, recommended for use with mobile developers who apply trim functions to password fields.
/ Then I tried a different USB A2C and my car had music and voice control again. Huh?
/13 Desk phone still busted but outta fucks to give. Technology sucks but I think I’ll stay in this century. Antibiotics and electric guitars.
