I was reminded of this scene today from the original L Word. I remember it hitting me so hard at the time, because you can see the realness of both perspectives so hard. You do get it.
And, if the only issue here was the loss of these community members, it would hurt, but I wouldn’t be speaking against it. Their lives aren’t mine to live. But ftms aren’t just grown women who MIGHT have the perspective and understanding to know what they’re deciding.
No. They’re coming for lesbians (and gays!) while we’re still CHILDREN. They’re separating young LGs from the ONLY PEOPLE who could give them understanding and support, an idea of what their futures will be like. They’re taking the “it gets better” away from gay children.
They are manipulating LG children into rejecting their orientations when they’re barely past puberty. They’re getting these PUBESCENT CHILDREN to make decisions that will ultimately render them sterile and permanently mark them physically as “OTHER.”
The most well-adjusted, happy LG people I know are ones who were able to tap into a supportive community early in their adult lives. Those who didn’t have that opportunity struggle a LOT more.

Maybe there was a time when transition existed more in the service, rather than predation, of our community. I don’t know. But, if so, those days are long over. Now this thing is coming after our girls, and lesbians MUST emphatically reject it. It’s destroying us.
