Trans fascism and its latest outburst, the Cancel Harry Potter crusade, look like inexplicable lunacy to normal people but it was all entirely predictable. The Left gravitates to whatever position gives it the best opportunity to use compulsive force against the most people.
Gay marriage had that appeal for them, but it was merely an appetizer for the feast to come. Opportunities for re-education and moral crusades were a big part of the gay marriage appeal to hardcore leftists. Lawsuits against bakers and such were very much a feature, not a bug.
Remember, always, that a primary goal of left-wing ideology is to make ordinary people see themselves as criminals, so they will accept the growth of the State, more punishment, and more coercive force. Utopia is a prison with left-wing wardens and guards.
What better way to make the population view itself as criminals than to make commonplace, deep-rooted views of family and sexuality seem like thought crimes? Suddenly almost everyone is burdened with shame and presumed guilty of punishable offenses.
This went into overdrive once gay marriage was secured and the transsexual crusade went into overdrive. You can see it happening in real-time with stuff like the J.K. Rowling "controversy." People supporting her quickly pronounce themselves guilty of thoughtcrime and apologize.
Because the Left wants people to see themselves as criminals who need punishment, correction, and control, they LOATHE the concept of "innocent until proven guilty." Their whole ideology is based on the opposite philosophy, down to its very core.
You can see this expressed most obviously and colorfully in the trans crusade, where there is absolutely zero presumption of innocence or good faith - not even for the widely admired author of the most popular children's books ever written, or the woman she spoke up for.
In the Left's weird and hostile sexual crusades, you can see the most obvious shredding of the presumption of innocence, the absolute absence of goodwill. There can be no innocent or well-meaning reasons for the slightest deviation from their rigid ideology, none whatsoever.
Not even passive tolerance - which was once presented as the ultimate objective of sexual crusaders - is acceptable. Nothing less that comprehensive, full-throated, active endorsement and support is acceptable. No other consideration can be placed above the trans crusade.
This includes considerations that were seen as priorities for the Left just a few years ago - women's sports, to take the most obvious example. No allowance is made for a desire to help women succeed in sports. Accept and DEMAND men in women's sports or you're a criminal.
The Rowling controversy is acquainting a larger audience with the latest vile insults to bubble from the festering pit of the left-wing imagination, and what do you know? It turns out women who think feminism is about women are suddenly the lowest kind of scum. Surprise!
If it makes you feel any better, ladies, understand that it's just math. There is little fresh compulsion and power to mine from demanding equality for women. They're half the population and they're doing great. Hard to use women's issues to make EVERYONE feel like a criminal.
You could see the last few efforts to bludgeon the public with feminist causes sputtering out during the Obama years - Sandra Fluke and contraceptive hysteria, for example. It was weak and silly, maybe enough to put away hapless Mitt Romney, but not much leverage to gain power.
Trans hysteria, though? That's a GOLD MINE with no bottom in sight. It's high-octane gas to fuel endless Twitter rage mobs, struggle sessions, and public shaming. It's a minuscule fraction of the population demanding the power to re-order and re-educate everyone else.
It's going to take force - endless, vicious, pervasive, inescapable force - to compel millions of normal people to obey the trans agenda. They have to be taught to punish themselves at the first thought of resistance, ideally in public for others to see.
It's a gulag that will never be full, a crusade that will never be over, a forced march that will never reach its destination, a howl of outrage that will never run out of air, a show trial that never raps the gavel. For the totalitarian Left, it's perfect. /end
