I've decided to spend the last week of this 400th yr thankful for what we've accomplished, remembering not the ugliness of these last few weeks, but the resiliency of our ancestors, the virtue of telling their stories & the beautiful support so many hv shown for the #1619Project.
I appreciate every encouraging tweet, DM and email you all have sent. I have tried to answer as many as I can, but if I haven't, please know your words have lifted me. Seeing your photos of the #1619Project given as Christmas gifts was a gift to me today.
I've spent the morning reflecting on every city I have been invited to in order to speak about #1619Project and all the people I've met. Of the 95-year-old black woman I met in New Orleans, of the black & Latiino high schoolers in Newark, of the Southeast Asian student in Chicago
How incredibly blessed I am, the descendant of enslaved people, to have helped usher into the world this project from the paper of record, to have the support of my editors, my community and our readers. I am grateful for all who helped create this: writers, editors, artists.
