Citizen Kane is likely somewhere in the back half of my never-curated top 100. Godfather is marginal but probably not tbh. Vertigo no chance.
There’ve been a lot of really good movies, and all while all three of those are certainly admirable it’s time to open up the ol’ canon.
It certainly handsomely shot and well acted and is an excellent time at the movies but the story has holes and is frankly sometimes a bit of a snooze, and after a century 100 is a small number, please leave the gun and take the cannoli if you whack me.
I recognize the artistry but Hitchcock is not my guy. I prefer The Birds and To Catch A Thief to Vertigo. Among his lionized films I truly love only Rear Window and Notorious (his best for my money.)
Other than cinematography I agree, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Goodfellas also didn’t make my top 100. Scorsese is very good but I’m not a Scorsese guy. Last Temptation is probably my favorite of his I’ve seen.
