Conditions are getting worse in the other New England ICE detention facilities since the Suffolk (Boston) jail stopped housing detainees. Rather than being more selective about who they detain after losing the bed space, they seem to be packing them in tighter.

This is not only bad not only as a basic human rights issue, but in terms of how much and for how long detainees are willing to fight their cases. People with many years here and strong ties to the U.S. are being pushed to give up and accept deportation--sometimes permanently.
"Every day in here feels like a year," more than one person has told me. Few people in ICE custody have ever done any time before, & the extra stress of not knowing if/when their cases might resolve (let alone how) can be a near- constant state of mental and emotional torture
We don't have private ICE detention facilities in Massachusetts, & I would like to see @MassDems step up to take real action to be sure that we never do. But our counties shouldn't be doing business with ICE--especially if they can't guarantee basic standards of decency & care
