Finally managed to visit 8th century BagaLi Kalleshwara temple. Probably the only temple in Karnataka developed by all 4 major dynasties, Rashtrakutas, Chalukyas, Hoysalas and Vijayanagara. (Thread)

There are 64 pillars of different shapes, round, square, star (6, 8, 12,16 sided). Those intricate carvings on 64 pillars are just amazing!
Irony of this place. I was talking to few locals there who told me that the family members (3rd & 4th gen) of the person who defaced these pillars in 1922 visit this place every year in memory of their grandfather. Proud grand kids indeed. We are a weird Country!

It used to rotate like the Earth, as well as revolving around every layer. For this reason, the exit gate used to turn in a different direction all the time, which confused the enemy

173 Indians were executed at Andaman's Cellular Jail & more than 3200 were incarcerated.

But only 3 prisoners in the entire history of Cellular jail wrote mercy petitions to the British : Savarkar brothers & Barin Ghose.

Let's see how history is being rewritten.

He was the leader of Anushilan Samiti and chief accused in the Barisal Conspiracy Case of 1913, and was sentenced by the British and transported to the Andaman
@saliltripathi Trilokya Nath in his Bengali book, Jele Tris Bachar (Thirty Years in Jail), published in 1938, wrote a betrayal story of Savarkar.

Savarkar instigated Trilokya & his friends to go on a hunger strike at Cellular Jail, which they did. But Savarkar himself did not join the strike.

Some of you may have noticed that I'm sporting a new tag in my screen name. It's not just a fad though, allow me to explain in this lil ol' #thread:
1/ As you (should) know, january 3rd marks the actual birthday of #Bitcoin, as it was the day that Satoshi mined the first blocks and hence set the Bitcoin story into motion. Upcoming jan 3rd will be the 10th anniversary and this would be an obvious time for celebrations.
2/ @TraceMayer took the initiative of a call-to-arms for all HODLers-of-last-resort, to join him and quite a few other prominent bitcoiners like @giacomozucco, @theonevortex and @CaitlinLong_, just to name some, and also sport the same tag in their screen name.

Drove from #Bangalore to #Hospet, a distance of 350 km, on March 25th to see the #Hampi ruins. Instead of going back via Chitradurga, turned onto NH 150A from NH 48 at Hiriyur. The Hiriyur - Hospet stretch has much less traffic compared to Chitradurga-Hospet. #IndiaRoadTrip
Soon after crossing Hiriyur en route to #Hospet (near #Hampi), the landscape transformed itself dramatically. There were beautiful craggy hills and fields with the characteristic red soil of the region, with moderate to scanty vegetation. #IndiaRoadTrip
The #Hiriyur to #Hospet route goes close to #Bellary (now #Ballary), w/ its many mines of the best quality iron. Saw trucks transporting iron ore plying on this route. Incidentally, Bellary has often been in the news for rampant illegal mining & export of iron ore. #IndiaRoadTrip
