Millions March Convenor booked for defying police permit rules:

Hyderabad: Chikkadpally police on Saturday booked Mushtaq Malik, Convenor Joint Action Committee against Citizens Amendment Act (CAA)and NRC for allegedly violating the conditions of Millions March permission. /1
The police claimed that it had granted conditional permission to JAC, which includes a clause of not permitting the gathering of persons more than one thousand at Indira Park Dharna Chowk. /2
More than two lakhs public had taken part in March, upon which the Chikkadpally police have taken a suo-moto action against JAC convenor Mushtaq Malik. A case under IPC Sec 143 (Unlawful Assembly), 341(Wrongful Restraint) and 290 (Nuisance) have been registered. /3

#MillionMarchHyderabad was first of its kind since independence, There was no traffic jam, No untoward incident, No anti religious slogans, No stone pelting and moreover the organizers cleaned the entire roads upto late night after the Million March. /3

How will the government separate “illegal residents”from“ genuine citizens”? All Indian residents, Atheist, Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Jain, Buddhist, Anglo-Indian, Brahmin, Dalits, Baniya, OBC, Kshatriya, etc will have to show documents & prove they're *genuine citizens* #CAA 2/N
Those who cannot provide documents will be declared as *illegal residents*. A large majority of SC/ST/OBC/NT are poor & illiterate due to structural reasons & they do not have documents which the government will ask. #CAA #NRCAgainstReservation

1. The original Citizenship Bill (which became The Citizenship Act 1955) was introduced in the Lok Sabha in May 1955. Debate on this bill took place on the 5th, 8th and 9th of August 1955.
2. On the 5th of August, during the debate on the bill, Smt Renu Chakravarty raised the issue of refugees from neighbouring countries and demanded that they be given citizenship.
3. On the 8th of August, Sri Pandit Thakur Das Bhargava made a passionate plea for giving citizenship to minorities of neighbouring countries. He asked where else would they go if not for India? See snippets of his argument....reminder of India being natural homeland.

1/n The NRC initially came about in 1951.
2/n Cut to the Bangladesh War in the 70s, when many immigrants moved to India, and there were protests.

To everyone who may eventually rea this, I wanted to help those not in India understand what #CAA or #CAB is and why many parts of India are rising in protest, leading to a suppression of dissent using police force, which may or may not be reported on in the press.
The government of the nationalist, Right-wing party carried out an exercise in the Indian state of Assam where they drew up a Citizen's List. Anyone who didn't appear on the list had to then appear before tribunals and prove that they *were* citizens of India. (2)
Ostensibly done to weed out illegal immigrants, it was widely perceived as an anti-Muslim exercise, designed to disenfranchise Muslim citizens, in keeping with the Hindutva (or Hindu supremacist) ideals of the ruling party, on the strength of which it roared into power. (3)
