Getting disturbing reports of violence from JNU through social media and WhatsApp -- SOS audios and videos of students being beaten up. What's happening?
A video of Sabarmati hostel in JNU being vandalised. Masked people seen holding sticks and creating terror.
Spoke to a JNU professor who said there is "mayhem" inside the campus.
A JNU professor says that there was a group of people (mostly outsiders) with lathis and sticks who were waiting inside the campus since around 4 pm and looking for some sort of signal to start the violence. "It was all organised and planned by the goons," the professor said.
"Police was letting in only such kind of people with sticks inside the campus and no one else. They had already made arrangements for an ambulance indicating that they had planned the violence. Two JNU professors (former ABVP members) helped organise the mob," the professor said.
One professor has been beaten up badly and suffered a head injury. She has been taken to the trauma centre. "The mob is indiscriminately beating up anyone and everyone now. They were apparently DU students affiliated to ABVP," the professor added.
A call to assemble at the JNU main gate at 9 pm today. Received via WhatsApp.
Spoke to a PhD student who is inside Shipra hostel of JNU. She said her hostel has not been vandalised till now. They are preparing themselves with exit plans & small means of self defence. "We saw some people from the mob carrying acid bottles too. It's too dangerous out here"
"Goons were banging on the doors of the nearby Koyna hostel. We held an emergency meeting and for now we plan to stay inside our rooms. There are men entering women's hostel and we don't know what they will stop at," the student from inside Shipra hostel at JNU said.
Jamia Coordination Committee has given a call to assemble at ITO (New Delhi) at 9 pm to protest against the violence unleashed JNU students and faculty.
Meanwhile, ABVP is blaming the left student unions for violence.
