2nd thing you need to know: That same day, @FLSenate will hear a bill (SB1008) that will allow the state to use 3rd party authorizers to set up a parallel system of publicly funded, privately managed charter schools. Communities will have no say in which schools are approved./3
The state will decide & the state will oversee new charter schools. Funding for this parallel network will come from an already deflated public ed budget. State leaders are not finding new sources of funding for charter schools or their authorizers./4 tinyurl.com/yewbx9oj
What can you do? Read the bills (SB 1088, SB 536). Email or call your senator if you support raising teacher pay, and oppose bills that facilitate charter school expansion./5 flsenate.gov/Senators/Find
If you can't get to Tallahassee on Jan. 13, write to your representatives that day to express support for public school teachers. Most importantly, spread the word about what's happening, so voters can elect leaders who care about public education in 2020./6
