@Carious1 Thanks for getting in touch. I won’t respond further than this because I’m getting messaged on lots of platforms. But…
1. You’ll notice I’m happy pointing to the evolutionary arguments of Haidt, Sloan Wilson, etc. Religion is a human universal...
@Carious1 ...and thus there cannot be a better argument for its utility. The new atheism gets many things wrong (God and human nature for starters) but it also gets evolution wrong.
@Carious1 2. Game theory is strategic and useful but our actions need holding to a higher standard since there are times the strategic action is immoral, eg when, strategically, we consider persons as violable means to ends...
@Carious1 3. False. I know you’ve heard people say that (and use Gregory Paul’s discredited study to do so) but it only goes to show that such people don’t care about the studies. They are idealogues...
@Carious1 4. Everyone has morality, it’s ineradicable, like religion. But the Hammurabi Code enshrines *difference* in human value not equality. It’s pretty much the opposite of the way of the cross which was my point...
@Carious1 5. God is not a Rotarian. He kills and makes alive.
6. There are still sects. (Matt seemed to think disagreement was good btw). Dark Ages=a foolish & ideologically driven way to look at history (popularised by Edward Gibbon). Read Hart’s Atheist Delusions or Holland’s Dominion...
@Carious1 7. Lamentably there has been that foul strand in Christianity (though it cannot be justified from the Bible at all!). No-one has brought more people to know and love the Hebrew writings, and land and way of life than Jesus...
@Carious1 8. Horrific. And why is it horrific? Because all members of the human family are worthy of all dignity, respect and protection — an axiom Matt could not and would not affirm. If you want protections for *all* in society you can’t side with Matt...
@Carious1 9. What needs explaining is not that members of the Christian (and other communities) were *for* a human universal. What needs explaining is how anyone managed to resist that universal. And it was emphatically evangelicals and Quakers...
@Carious1 10. The church has done many unfortunate things — sometimes evil things. Singing off key doesn’t mean there’s no such thing as singing in tune. And the song the church has been given to sing is beautiful and has undeniably built our world.

11. No.

Peace.
