Sad to hear the passing of Roger Scruton, an intellectual giant & philosopher of the human condition.

In his book "Beauty", he sought what great art can tells us about "the worthwhileness of being human" beyond a particular historical age with its temporal fashions & despair.
This study on "Beauty" (2009) by Roger Scruton is less than 200 pages yet it's a tour de force of aesthetic insights on art (paintings/literature/music) that can be inspiring, disturbing, earthly & transcendental yet all essential in revealing what is to be human.
In this small volume on the value of Art, Scruton exhorts each of us not to live in an "aesthetic vacuum" where indifference & cynicism can overshadow our inborn aesthetic judgment from artistic to natural beauty. Basically, living in an aesthetic vacuum is not living well.
In this lecture on "The True, the Good & the Beautiful", you can hear the wisdom of Roger Scruton. I heartily encourage you to watch it. After one hour, you'll be inspired while becoming more enlightened as a human being.

On Chapter 4 of "Beauty", Scruton meditates on 'Everyday Beauty' & the aesthetics of the garden.

"The best place to begin the exploration of everyday beauty is in the garden, where leisure, learning and beauty come together, in a liberating experience of home"
“The ordering of sound as music is an ordering of the soul”

-Roget Scruton, "The Aesthetics of Music"
This is a musical eulogy for Scruton, who loved the transcending beauty of Bach sonatas: Sonata No. 1 in G minor for solo violin, brilliantly performed by Itzhak Perlman.
