"Just to be precise, I represent Trump in his personal capacity, not as President of the United States."

Note to reader: People in their personal capacities do not exercise the foreign policy of the United States.
This has always struck me as the most obviously damning part of the story: Trump sent his personal lawyer, loyal to and representing him alone -- and *not* to the people of the United States. See the para below from last month. reason.com/2019/12/10/imp…
Toensing's involvement discussed in the letter brings to mind this report from September: thedailybeast.com/joe-digenova-a…
This whole thing is totally bananas. I realize that a majority of the Senate is pretty committed to saying that this is all nothing and a witch hunt made up by people who hate Trump, but man, history will not judge that view kindly.
I'd be interested to know who was paying Toensing & diGenova's bill, too. Trump seems too cheap to pay that kind of money.
I'd also be interested to know, if Toensing and diGenova were charging $100,000 a month, if Giuliani was actually taking on the case without charge, as he says.
Several commenters mention Dmitry Firtash, a Russian fascing extradition to the US on bribery & racketeering charges, who according to this story paid Toensing and diGenova $1.2 million, possibly directed by Giuliani. Wow. nytimes.com/2019/11/25/us/…
Which I suppose raises the question of whether T & diG just coincidentally were simultaneously representing (1) Trump personally & (2) someone fighting extradition by the executive run by Trump in his official capacity paying tons of $$$, or if those representations were linked.
