A little thread on #GE2020 (sorry). We all love to spend time giving out about how FFFG have failed us. It's a bit like therapy isn't it? BUT (hear me out), would that time be better spent elsewhere? Like, for example, getting out for an evening canvassing or delivering leaflets
with your local progressive candidate? (You can still give out to your heart's content while walking between houses). Think of it this way: if you want to see a change, and would like more progressive representation, getting out to vote is brilliant. That's one important vote
towards something better. If you go canvassing with a candidate and have ONE great conversation about why you support the candidate and how great they are, and you convince someone on the fence to vote for them, that's TWO votes towards something better. If you go canvassing say
twice a week for the next three weeks, and convince one person each time, that is 6 votes plus your own, so SEVEN VOTES going towards building a better future for you, your family and all the marginalised people who are being left behind by current policies on housing, health,
equality etc. Seven votes is a lot. Ask @HollyLeahCairns - she won by only one. Canvassing really is fun once you get over the scary first few minutes. Trust me: I'm sitting here with my giant bump and my swollen legs having serious canvassing FOMO. It's no secret that I am a
@SocDems supporter but really, any progressive candidate will do. There are brilliant people out there running for different parties, and independently. Smaller parties can't compete when it comes to money and resources but with a bit of help and a lot of heart, we have a chance.
So please, please consider giving something to your local candidate that they will consider a most precious gift - your time!
