The 10th amendment falls, but 52-48! One Republican wanted a day off.
Schumer’s 11th amendment (empowering the Chief Justice to make evidentiary rulings) will be the last of the night. That’s probably good since Schiff seems to be on the verge of losing his voice.
The defector on the scheduling amendment was reportedly Collins.

This is what happens “when you drill down” on any matter. It has little to do with this case.
The OJ Simpson case is a good example. It is full of rich detail and complicated chronologies and cross-currents of domestic abuse, LA’s racial divisions, police pathologies, courtroom hijinks, etc. But it’s also simple. He killed two people, and was acquitted.
In the same way, the Trump case is simple despite the volume of detail. He made the US government’s whole relationship with Ukraine contingent on Ukraine paying his re-election campaign with a favor, got caught out, and has been in a defensive crouch ever since.

Bit of a different amendment from Schumer, seeming to condition admitting documents that are subject to a subpoena into evidence by the president’s team on the provision of the rest of the documents demanded by the subpoena. McConnell calls an immediate break.
The CNN broadcast crew could not care less about the substance of the amendment just announced.

Good morning. We start President Donald Trump's impeachment trial in the Senate with debate and then a vote on the rules that will guide how the trial unfolds. I will frequently be reporting from inside the chamber and largely relegated to pen/pad until I can access electronics.
I hope you will continue to follow along here for updates and color as the trial progresses!

Debate in Senate starts at 1PM ET today, both sides get an hour. Then, expected around 3PM ET, Dems propose amendments to GOP resolution and eventually, some time tonight, they vote.

Highlights: Rules V and VII, provide that the Chief Justice (who presides over the trial) may make all orders and rulings that an ordinary judge would make.

(“May” means he doesn’t have to: He can defer the decision to the Senate.)

The hitch is that even if the Chief Justice does make a ruling, he can be overruled by a majority of Senators.
