The courtroom is already full for the 7th and final Insys sentencing, for company founder & former billionaire John Kapoor.

Prosecutors, who have painted the 76 year old Kapoor as a sort of pharmaceutical mafioso, will ask for 15 years in prison.
There is a lengthy list of victims who want to make statements before the court.

The first says he is a "survivor" of Insys' "unethical behavior."

"Far too many people have died or, like me, have had their lives changed at the hands of your greed and cruelty."
The man says he is furious thinking of the memories that he could have lost had he died while on Subsys.

"I hope knowing you are responsible for stealing millions of memories from people makes you remorseful. I will pray that god forgives you, and I will too."
Many times during victim impact statements, defendants avoid eye contact.

Kapoor is looking over his shoulder, directly at those speaking.

A woman said she couldn't not rouse her Subsys-addicted husband, thinking “this is it, he is going to die here in front of his children.”
A woman speaks on behalf of her daughter who died while on Subsys.

"We now spend birthdays at Sarah’s grave. The sentences handed down so far have been a disgrace. Kapoor and his coconspirators are no different than mobsters."

(Longest sentence so far is 33 months)
A military veteran asks Kapoor to imagine "the daughter staring up at the stars wondering, 'can daddy really see me from there?'" or "the lab still holding a vigil by the door."

He asks Kapoor: "Why? Why did my life seem so & insignificant that you traded It for a few dollars?"
Another victim abandons his script and says:

"This gentleman is a criminal. He killed people, he hurt people, he ruined people's lives and he should receive the maximum prison.

I look at him as a drug pusher and a murderer."
Beth Wilkinson, Kapoor's lawyer, argues the gov't has ignored many her client's good characteristics.

“The 70 year history Dr. Kapoor has shows no evidence of greed. He wanted to do something that would help people. That can make it easier for other people going through pain.”
Kapoor: "To the patients who spoke here today, I listened to you. And from my heart, I am so sorry.

I can feel it, because I have been through it myself."

He said he believed in Subsys, perhaps too much, and never intended it to be prescribed to people who didn't need it.
#Breaking: Judge Allison Burroughs sentences Insys founder John Kapoor to 5 years, 6 months in prison for the company's scheme to bribe doctors to prescribe opioids.
Judge Burroughs denies a request from Assistant U.S. Atty Nat Yeager to have Kapoor detained or put on a bracelet, saying she will "give him the benefit of the doubt."

"I don't have any reason to believe you are going to flea, I hope that confidence is warranted."
The sentences for Insys execs who were convicted or pled guilty to conspiring to bribe doctors to prescribe opioids:

John Kapoor: 66 months
Mike Gurry: 33 months
Rich Simon: 33 months
Mike Babich 30 months
Joe Rowan: 27 months
Alec Burlakoff: 26 months
Sunrise Lee: 12 months
*flee ... homonym fail on my part.
BREAKING: Insys Founder Called 'Mobster,' 'Murderer' Gets 5 1/2 Years law360.com/bankruptcy/art…
US Atty Andrew Lelling: “Out of pure greed, Insys executives from John Kapoor on down, bribed doctors to prescribe this powerful addictive drug to people who did not need it.”
Lelling said the "public interest demanded" higher sentences in this case than the ones Judge Burroughs issued.

"These guys took a publicly traded pharma company and turned it into an engine for corrupting doctors and jeopardizing the health of men and women nationwide."
Lelling said he is concerned about Kapoor fleeing before reporting to prison.

"Mr. Kapoor is quite wealthy and he has at least some family connections overseas and he is 76 years old, so there are some concerns in that area. I hope that I am wrong."
