Got 15 min before I jump off so taking advantage of pedestal;
Went for job at #Aboriginal org, asked why I wasn't interviewed for same position advertised 6 months ago. Non-Indigenous manager says 'not qualified' so growing up in said community for over 30 yrs doesn't count...
I know being skilled is important & I've heard this said at 2 largest #Aboriginal orgs/bodies in NT but where's focus on advancement of #Aboriginal people outside of academic frame? Why does everyone have to go through white-way to jump through white hoops to work for Blak orgs?
It starts to feel like gentrification of our spaces/places where we meant to feel safe to access services when we don't get to participate if we won't play the game the white ways?
Do we even get credits/RPL for cultural knowledge?
8 min now;
We have well-funded council-workers, teachers, hospital staff & well-paid contractors on the island but all the perks go to people that are not invested in our communities, they never have & most likely never will. Why isn't there a lot more focus on supporting locals?
Ok, I'll leave it there but moral of this story;
Allies need to amplify & accelerate not ignore, interrupt and overrule. Don't study to help us if you're going to take a job from one of us & managers in Aboriginal orgs, stop trying to corporatise everything.
Ok, I'm out. Hope you getting through this torrid day ok & kunatha, Lardil farewell blessings for the day, the month & year. Hope to see you's on my TL sometime too.🙌🏾✊🏾✌️🏾
