PLACES NIGERIANS STILL ENCOUNTER CORRUPTION UNDER PRESIDENT @MBuhari: TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL'S- @anticorruption LATEST RANKING WAS NOT ALL WRONG

Short Thread
/ Last Thur, in its '19 Corruption Perception Index (CPI), by country, the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, Transparency InternationaI’s chapter in Nigeria, revealed that Nigeria scored 26 out of 100 points, falling back by one point when compared with the 2018 report.
/ The CPI revealed that Nigeria ranks 146 out of 180 countries – two places down compared to 2018 results.
/ It pointed that while the index does not show real incidences of corruption, it is a reliable indication of the perception of the Nigerian public and the international community about the state of corruption in the country.
/ Disappointed at Nigeria’s rating on TI’s corruption index, Nigeria's Attorney-General, Abubakar @MalamiSan and other government functionaries, have been blowing hot.
/ Their arguments points that @anticorruption report was bogus, noting that there was no evidence to back Nigeria's poor rating.
/ REALLY? Dear President @MBuhari, if you are carried away by the ambience of Aso Rock and the perks of Presidency, below is a microscopic glance into what goes on on the streets of Nigeria👇👇👇👇
/ - Public Offices are abused.
/ Nigeria's Electoral Processes at all levels are compromised and fraught with violence, irregularities and interference by security agencies- @NigeriaPolice, @HQNigerianArmy. The gains recorded in 2011-2015 have been eroded by state actors. Infact, 2023 is BLEAK if unchecked.
/ Average Nigerians encounter corruption when they go to hospital.
/ Average Nigerians encounter corruption when they come in contact with the @PoliceNG either on the road or at the police station. Nigerians also encounter corruption when they come in contact with other security agencies like the @CustomsNG, etc.
/ When Nigerian students are seeking admissions into public tertiary institutions nationwide, they encounter corruption. Placements into these institutions are barely based on merits, but on who you know and how much you have in your pockets. This issue is very alarming.
/ When Nigerians go to process international passports, at passport offices nationwide, they encounter corruption perpetrated by @nigimmigration officials and touts.
/ When Nigerians go to process their drivers licenses, they encounter corruption perpetrated by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps @FRSCNigeria and touts.
/ There is steep corruption in Nigeria's national budget system, and even at states and local government levels.
/ There is steep corruption nationwide in Project Biddings and Execution, across national, states and local government levels.
/ There is steep corruption in job placements across public offices, nationally, at the states and local government levels. Jobs are still being given not on the basis of merit, but based on ethnicity, religion and class.
/ Even Mr. President's appointments into military formations, public offices, et al, have continued to be marred in Nepotism controversies, since 2015. But despite the public outcries, @MBuhari 'NO SEND.' This anomaly has continued till date.
/ Like TI’s rep in Nig., Auwal Rafsanjani, said in a recent interview with Thisday Newspapers, the sad issues of corruption still eating the fabrics of Nigeria, got nothing to do with what Nigeria's two anti-graft agencies- @officialEFCC or @ICPC_PE is doing fighting grafts.
/ Even in their fights, perception of many Nigerians, the int'l comm. is that the war against graft is skewed against govt critics, opposition figures, expendables within the ruling party. Needless citing names. This fact is glaring to Nigerians. Nigerians are NO FOOLS.
/ Can these rots be tackled headlong by President @MBuhari? Yes! How? Mr. President should henceforth, stop junketing the world. Enough of his junketings, shaking of hands and waving from the presidential jets.
/ @MBuhari should act urgently, as an elderstatesman who claims to love Nigeria more than his personal aggrandizements. He should begin a massive leg-work across Nigeria, consulting widely and working with all 36 State Governors...
...State Assemblies, Religious and Traditional institutions, Civil Society Organisations, Academia, Leaders of Thoughts and Think Tanks at home and in the Diaspora, to lay a SOLID FOUNDATION, for RESTRUCTURING Nigeria.
/ From my research, there is little or no possibility for Nigeria to go back to REGIONALISM, as it operated 1960-1966. Best Bet is to COPY WHOLESALE, the U.S. @WhiteHouse democracy, and domesticate it across Nigeria, where excess powers is not resided at the CENTRE.
/ As time goes on, I and many other Think Tanks, at home and in the Diaspora, shall continue to bear our minds on HOW to go about these germane suggestions for a #NewAndBetterNigeria. This is NO ROCKET SCIENCE. #NigeriaIsDiamond by October 1, this 2020. So Far, How Well?
/ Bringing this thread to an end, I say, SHALOM, Fellow Nigerians.
