Tonight we discussed a 1998 forum in the Journal of American Ethnic History with three essays by Jon Gjerde, George Sanchez and @prof_erikalee, and comments by Rudph Veccoli, @drg1949 and Elliott Barkan.
The main debate was between the earlier Eurocentric model of immigration history and the histories being done about Asian, Latinx and other non-white immigrants from@am Ethnic Studies perspective. Veccoli accused Sanchez of seeing everything through the lens of race.
One student said that Veccoli seemed “triggered” and felt like people were coming for his job. I’m wondering whether this is even a debate anymore. Seems like Sanchez and Lee won snd tgevotger guys have just died off, but maybe I’m wrong. Next week: Oscar Handling, The Uprooted

I struggled to imagine this huge number, so I animated some bar graphs that put it in proportion with other points of reference. The scale is quite stark.

Here’s a thread about how I prepared for my IELTS.

This is my personal opinion after trying different methods for over 4 months, and consulting numerous websites. 1/n
First thing first; the Cambridge Books, or most of them for that matter, don’t really help. They did maybe a couple of years ago but the essays that are written there won’t get you a band 7. They’re helpful for getting the topics to write though. 2/n
Second, I tried a total of 3 times. Self-evaluated my writings the first two times which, to be honest, did not help much. You can not exactly point out your own mistakes. The third time I got a teacher to properly evaluate my tasks, and improved a lot. 3/n
