2/ So, 24hours after @followlasg announced a latest ban on the activities of commercial motorcycles (Okada), tricycles (Keke NAPEP) & bike hailing services, not one bike hailing services operator in Lagos, has kicked. Not @GokadaNG @maxdotng @OPay_NG @getoride etc. INTERESTING?
3/ What this graveyard silence means is that @followlasg & these bike hailing services had already reached a closed door agreement to MONOPOLIZE commercial bike operations in Lagos, thus, the need for the BAN. Later, the BAN will soon be LIFTED for Licensed Bike Hailing Services.
4/ According to @followlasg Info Commissioner, @gbenga_omo, the ban became necessary to Sanitize Lagos Roads of scary accident data & crime rate. "The figures are scary. From 2016 to 2019, there were over 10,000 accidents recorded at the General Hospitals alone," said he.
5/ Among other suggestions I've given @followlasg in an earlier THREAD, towards sanitizing Lagos roads and making life pleasant for Lagosians, and visitors, I enjoin Gov. @jidesanwoolu to lift the ban on Bike Hailing Services plying the below routes affected by this latest ban.
6/ WHY? 1. This is because the riders that these bike hailing services hire have passed through background checks, they are already licensed to operate motorcycles, and their sanity to operate these bikes are not in doubt. So, high accidents & crime rates are already in check.
7/ 2. Moreso, recall that in July 2019, when @followlasg was mulling the idea of this ban, it was reported that these bike hailing services needed to pay N25m annual licensing fee for 1000 bikes they own.
8/ 3. If that N25m is too much for these start-ups to pay, @followlasg should not throw away the baby with the bath water. Reduce this annual licensing fee. This will drive more bike hailing operators into the virgin industry. This will up @followlasg IGR and More jobs created.
9/ 4. By regulating the commercial bike industry in Lagos, among other laws to be set in place, @followlasg will gradually SANITIZE the Lagos Transport System within a short period of time. I repeat, an express ban is just like setting the cart before the horse. It's pure WASTAGE
