sometimes I'm tempted to dish out dating advice but I guess it might be like hearing financial advice from a lottery winner, since I married the first person I dated

but like with that caveat

if I were actively dating, I would make sure to make all my ex-dates look good
i'm not saying you're a bad person if you're complaining or commiserating about bad dates; it makes you human

i'm just saying that my assessment of optimal dating strategy is when you make everyone who passes through your sphere look good
you can read this as "here's a guy who's so good at dating he solved it instantly" or "here's a guy who has no idea what the fuck he's talking about", you are welcome to either interpretation or anything in between
yea don't do this my dudes

you don't have to be dishonest and fake; if you didn't have a good time, you don't have to pretend that you had a good time

but simply demonstrating restraint in dunking on your dates makes you a more appealing date

if you embody this, you get social superpowers. everyone loves you and introduces you to everyone else. it's not ~easy~, but it really is this simple

this general principle works in hiring, too. if you run a company, make sure all of your ex-employees look good otw out. it's not just for them, it's for your existing team, too – they will feel comfortable knowing that their exit will be dignified. they'll invite friends to join
I love this bit from David Ogilvy:
