This was probably not what I should have spent the last couple hours on but here’s a visual representation of the world for Jewish refugees after the Evian conference in 1938. Because saying “32 countries” doesn’t really convey the scope of the refusal.
Red are the countries that were directly represented at Evian. Orange are the colonial territories of those countries. Dark blue is the USSR; black and dark grey are Germany, its allies, and their respective colonies.
The little green dot is the Dominican Republic, the only country that agreed to take in additional refugees.
Anyways this will save me a lot of emphatic handwaving about the extent of European colonisation in 1938 so it might save someone else both that and a couple hours colouring in a map.
Here’s an updated version—thanks to folks for catching some mistakes in the original and also I managed to find a template with 1938 borders which is both easier to work with and more accurate!
