Good morning from Hua Lamphong station in Bangkok. Today we'll be taking the 🚆 Special Tour Train Bangkok–Nam Tok to Kanchanaburi.
Tickets for the train to Kanchanaburi can be booked at Bangkok Railway Station. Since this is a limited service only operated on weekend, tickets sell out fast so it's recommended to book in advance.
The Special Tour Train 909 bound to Nam Tok departs from Platform 11 at 06:30 AM. This is a special excursion train run by State Railway of Thailand on Saturdays and Sundays only.
The first stop of the journey is Nakhon Pathom.
The highlight of the visit is the impressive Pra Pathom Chedi. The train will stop here for 40 mins, which is enough time to walk from the station to the temple and return to resume the journey.
The Special Tour Train to Kanchanaburi offers two passenger classes: 3rd class with Hard seats and 2nd class with Soft seats. Travelling in 3rd class is less comfortable but you can open the windows and enjoy the views. 2nd class car has air-con, so you cannot open the windows.
The second stop of the journey is the Bridge over River Kwai. The train will make a stop right before the bridge and allow the passengers to disembark.
The train will wait for 25 mins so travellers can cross the bridge on foot, take photos and experience the historic monument
When all passengers are back on board, our train will cross the Bridge over the River Kwai at slow pace. This moment is lived with great expectation by the tourists on the ground.
Continuing our journey to the west, the train passes by the Wampo Viaduct, a section of the Death Railway to Burma built along the edge of the Khwae Noi River.
If you look to the other side, the train passes so close to the cliff that you can extend your arm and touch the rock
We arrived to our destination, Nam Tok Sai Yok Noi. Passengers can enjoy a 2 hour break for lunch and sightseeing, then the train will return to Bangkok.
Time to rest after the exhausting trip. Local travellers take the opportunity to refresh at the Sai Yok Noi Waterfall, kids slide over the wet rocks and families prepare a picnic by the riverside.
The return train Nam Tok–Bangkok is ready for departure. All aboard!
And we are back at Hua Lamphong Railway Station in Bangkok. End of the line for the 🚆 Special Tour Train to Kanchanaburi. Thanks for joining our day trip today!
