A view of world’s longest and India’s first dedicated underpass for #wildlife on NH7/44. It is passing through Kanha Pench Corridor. Between March & Dec ‘19 researchers recorded 5381 captures of 18 wild animal species using it, 89 tiger crossings of 11 individuals. @bhlab_india
This info-graphic has the details. Even if it is serving some purpose, it should not be an excuse to openly start building linear infrastructure in wildlife habitats. Maybe in coming days more info will come.

Whoaaa !! A joint family of 70 elephants. So huge that I could not catch family in a single frame. That is kind of social structure they have. The secret #Life of #elephants.
From traveling together, which they do a lot, to eating together they are serious family goals. New born looked after by everybody in the herd. They can recognise their relatives also.
They accumulate a lot of wisdom due to their long life span & pass on to next generation. These all are my pictures, of same herd of 70 elephants which I tracked few months back. As I said it was so huge.

So today let me share story of Amur Falcon, a bird which crosses Himalayas enroute to India from Mongolia & Arabian Sea for going to Africa. This bird covers 22,000 KMs flying. One of the nature’s amazing wonder. In Nagaland they come in hundreds of thousands & stay for some time
With onset of winter come to Nagaland. Recently a study was conducted. Where a male Amur Falcon named ”Naga”, flew from Nagaland to Somalia in E Africa, crossing the entire subcontinent & Arabian Sea, for five days and 10 hours non-stop and covering a distance of some 5,600km.
Since a million Amur falcons arrive in Nagaland, it is also called as Amur falcon capital of the world. They were also hunted in thousands there. Communities played a prominent role in connecting these guests. Now hunting has stopped.

On May 10, 1901 at jam-packed hall of Royal Society, London he demonstrated how plants have life with crescograph. He invented telegram. Proved Eastern mind was indeed capable of scientific achievements. Remembering JC Bose, first modern scientist of India on death anniversary.
With this experiment he was able to demonstrate first time in history that plants & trees have life. His Crescograph could record motion of plant tissues to about 10 K times of their actual size. That also a century ago when instruments were not so precise. 2/n
Becane first Indian to be appointed as Professor of Physics in Presidency College & later to Imperial Education Service (IES) only on Ripon’s intervention, due to racial policy of britishers. Bose was Offered half payment vis-a-vis Europeans, in protest refused salary but taught.

India has to be prepared for escalation in the situation along the Line of Control with Pakistan, said Army chief General Bipin Rawat on Wednesday. Pakistan's army continues to attempt BAT (border action team) operations.
The Pakistani army indulge in heavy cross-border firing after J&K’s special status was abrogated in August. "Pakistan is attempting BAT actions almost every third day. We keep on foiling them and taking retaliatory action,” said a source.

The army has thwarted about 10 to 12 infiltration attempts made by terrorists operating from launch-pads near the LoC, following the changes made in the erstwhile state on August 5.

India's latest tiger census (2018) is finally out - India is now home to 2,967 tigers. It means it has more than doubled its tiger population in the last 12 years.
2014 - 2,226
2010 - 1,706
2006 - 1,411
In the future, it would also mean more human-wildlife conflict as tiger habitats and corridors are increasingly under threat.
So @PMOIndia while releasing the latest tiger estimation results reignites the environment vs development debate. He also stressed that protected areas in the country have increased.

From cruise missiles to laser-guided bombs, antiship missiles to smart weapons & modern radars and avionic systems, a new aircraft designed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) promises a lot. The plane, for which design work is complete, doubles as a fighter trainer.
The IAF has not made any demand for it. HAL CMD R Madhavan recently said HAL no longer waits for IAF’s requirements. "We're confident of doing R&D and offering a product. We're even looking at markets outside,” he said.
