* Treats opposition as illegitimate

* Puts himself above accountability

In this context, the "decorum" debate is meaningless. New:

Media chatter about Pelosi ripping up the speech and the ongoing erosion in decorum misses the point.

It's a category error. Such breaches of civility aren't the threat to democracy here.

The real threat to it is Trump's daily anti-democratic conduct.

Trump treats the opposition as fundamentally illegitimate in every way, and places himself beyond accountability entirely.

Those are far greater threats to the functioning of democracy than that posed by breaches in civility like tearing up a speech.

1/ Note for those who think she's been going easy on Trump (ym'sh): literalists, i.e. surface thinkers, believe that only what they see is truth/reality

This is solipsism and its folly & fallacy

This mentality isn't new but the internet proliferates its damages.
2/ How it applies to the #TrumpCrisis: Combat, whether with fists or ideas, isn't a Rocky style exchange of punches to the face (a movie made for literalists). There's feints & bluffs.

Kevin McCarthy feigns being mad about Pelosi: "That's an official document that she has! That's different than what anybody-- it's not some printout. The president walks in and hands that to the Speaker and the Vice President. Those are the official documents. He signs those!"

My thoughts about Pelosi ripping up the speech involve a court story, match.
I was in district court the other day, meaning there were ~100 people in the courtroom waiting for their misdemeanor cases to be resolved.
I stepped out of the courtroom to speak with a client (there are no private interview rooms there), and as I came back in a guy came up to me.
