Fire was raging when I left AX and headed into D.C. for an hour. When I came back over the river, you could see the smoke from miles away. High winds have carried burning embers over to my complex, but so far contained. Many thanks to Fairfax Fire Dept.
Footage from about 2 hours ago when it first started. Took me awhile to navigate around road closures.
Genuinely hope no one hurt.

Aiming to include an explicit bar against sex discrimination in the U.S. Constitution, the House will vote today on whether to nix the deadline for states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment.

Trump's budget proposes deep cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security while proposing huge tax cuts for the wealthy.

In short:
Austerity for the working class.
Rewards and treats for the elite.
His base champions this budget policy regardless of whether it actually benefits them or not.

Sad as it is, until those voters feel the pain in their wallets or until it is their family member being kept alive through Medicare...no amount of reason or logic matters.

I have yet to see any racially charged imagery for myself. I can’t confirm it’s not here, but I haven’t seen it. Either way, up to this point, this is clearly a #2A rally and not a hate rally. Let’s hope it stays that way. Kudos to everyone here for keeping the peace.

To celebrate #DonaldDuck's 85th birthday, I am gonna watch every DD theatrical cartoon in chronological order (minus the ones I just covered in my #Mickey90 megathread)

Day 1: "The Wise Little Hen" (June 9, 1934)

Donald's 1st appearance, as a scene-stealing supporting actor in this Silly Symphony cartoon. He is paired w/Peter Pig, who will never have a role this good again. DD becomes an instant star, while Peter is demoted to background player
I think they know they have something here; they save Donald's intro for last, and give him a great entrance.

Also, WLH's singing voice is perfect, and Peter Pig's speaking voice is a true nightmare. You can feel his cartoon career ending the moment he opens his mouth.

I did something similar to this 5 years ago, in anticipation of EC & @theroots' Wise Up Ghost LP, on tumblr.

(You can still find all those posts if you look, although a lot of the YouTube links etc are now dead ends. It was 40 Days Of EC then, so for 2018 I'm upping it to 45.)
Mostly I will be going chronologically from the early years right up to the present, but it feels right to start out with Costello's 2002 song, "45."
