JUST IN: DOJ argues Roger STONE deserves jail time using an argument that would be very familiar to Democrats who just prosecuted the impeachment trial:
NEW: DOJ's argument to put Roger Stone in prison used eerily similar language as Democrats did in the impeachment trial.

Both expounded on the danger of obstructing investigations into election interference. Both quoted Federalist 68.

This was the case in 2016 for Republicans as well -- but once Trump became the prohibitive nominee, he merged his operation with the RNC to crush dissent at the convention (an effort led by Manafort)

The opposition evaporated pretty quickly.
For months there were storie slike this about how anti-Trump delegates were winning in routs at state conventions in a way that could flip the convention if it got to a second ballot. politico.com/story/2016/04/…

One judge’s ouster was completed over a month’s time, while the process for the other took two years
@RepAdamSchiff @FredLucasWH @DailySignal Schiff also led the prosecution team in the Senate trials, which saw one judge removed from office and the other resign before the trial got far. Only 15 federal judges in U.S. history have been impeached, and Schiff played a key role in two of those cases.

A note on #impeachment -

In a court of law, under non-presidential circumstances, impeachment is a tool litigation attorneys use to discredit the opposing side's witnesses at trial. When said witness takes the stand under oath attys. present evidence contrary to what the witness
claims. This weakens the other side's case by discrediting impeached witnesses's testimony. Once a witness has been impeached - by presentment of inconsistent testimony - the judge/jury can no longer use the impeached witnesses's testimony in reaching a verdict.
Simply put, they aren't trustworthy. In the case of Presidential impeachment that broad definition of impeachment applies, but the impeachment tool is used for a very different purpose. Under the Constitution, a sitting President cannot be tried in a court of law for anything.
