Good morning. Everyone is raging about national politics. But right now Trump is *winning in NY.* His loyalists are using fear, racism, & division to roll back bail reform to jail more Black & Brown people & win state seats. We need your help. Thread:
As commonsense bail reform has started in 2020 saving lives & keeping families together, I’ve been horrified by the desperate attempts to try to defeat them. Using the same tactics of fear used by George Wallace to Trump that got us mass incarceration, now to perpetuate it in NY. 
The reform: Ending cash bail for just misdemeanors & nonviolent felonies. Lawmakers studied. Learned how community investment, housing, jobs, treatment are better for public health & safety than jail. Proof: 74% incarceration drop with a 82% major felony drop in last 3 decades.
Public defenders know the NY reform is simply a continuation of decades long trends in decarceration that didn’t lead to mayhem, but kept families together & increases public safety. Police, prosecutors, & Trump GOP feel threatened by change. So they’re doubling down on fear.
