SACROILIAC JOINT DYSFUNCTION: Is highly associated with soft tissue hypermobility & Fibromyalgia.
Groin pain is characteristically associated with sacroiliac joint dysfunction (subluxation); the subjective impression of groin pain is due to pain radiation, referred pain, from the injured sacroiliac joint capsule ligaments.
Pain radiation patterns from an injured lumbar spine are in a typical sciatic distribution; through the buttocks & down the posterior thigh, sometimes through calf to the foot, a referred pain pattern called “radiculopathy”; not to the groin.
People with pain originating from sacroiliac joint (SIJ) subluxation typically experience increased low back pain when they lay down on the mattress at night; as sleep surface ground forces traverse the pelvic girdle to torque the loose SIJ; stretching ligaments.
People with lumbar spine disorders of disk disorders and spinal stenosis typically have decreased pain at night & as they lay down; as upper body weight is off-loaded from the axial spine.
Area of lumbar pain elicited by spine disorders overlaps the area of pain elicited by sacroiliac joint disorders; medical doctors cannot diagnose one or the other disorder based upon pattern of pain distribution. Yet groin pain is distinctive for SIJ dysfunction/subluxation.
